Being a sibling of a special needs child can bring about unique challenges and experiences. I recently came across this term called "glass child" which refers to a child who grows up with a sibling that has a disability, chronic illness, or other significant needs. It doesn't mean they are ignored or unloved- but rather that their needs may sometimes become less visible in the midst of family challenges.

Why "glass"?
Glass is transparent; Glass is fragile yet strong. Similarly, these children can sometimes feel unseen. They are often very independent, empathetic, and resilient, but they may also suppress emotions to avoid adding the stress to their parents, creating potential internal struggles.
Our Goal
We are here to support and recognize the experiences of these amazing siblings! Every child deserves to feel heard. By understanding the Glass Child perspective, we can create stronger family bonds as well as ensure that all siblings feel just as important as they truly are.
